To be treated with dignity and respect, statehood for Palestinian people and United States disengagement with Iraq and Afghanistan are just a few of the request Muslims are seeking from President Obama as he prepares to deliver his speech to the Muslim world on Thursday in Cairo. More than anything they want his actions to match his words.

A new beginning and a new world view is the expectation of the 1.5 billion Muslims in the world as Obama’s place as the leader of the free world with ties to Africa, Muslims as well as Indonesia inspires hope, but more than hope is the need to see something real taking place, something beyond the words.

Can Obama rise to the demands? Can he erase what is viewed by Muslims as the United States pro-Israel bias? Can he effectively negotiate a two-state compromise between Israel and Gaza? What effect can he truly have on the foreign policy that has been firmly held for so long? Already there is a disagreement between Israel and Obama with the decision to freeze construction in the West bank settlements with Israel rejecting this idea.

While Obama has reached out to Muslims at different junctions since being in office, Muslims feel it is now time for actions. Yet even if actions are taken for the betterment of Muslims around the world there still remains the anti-American, hate filled attitudes of the jihadists which in modern terms is the struggle against non-believers. It is obvious how difficult it is to reform individuals’ intent on hating who truly believe it is their religious duty, as Muslims, to create a holy war on behalf of Islam.

Meanwhile, in Iraq where fighting continues and the loss of American life continues to rise as another U.S. soldier’s death brings the death total to 21 in the month of May with at least 4,303 U.S. military soldiers who have died in the six years we have been over there, the war in Afghanistan intensifies.

Israel, on the other hand, is intent on keeping the Israel-Gaza friction active as Israel seeks U.S. affirmation in the understandings reached between former President George W. Bush and the Israeli government and on the West Bank a violent shootout, between Palestinian policemen and Hamas occurred, over the weekend, where six people died

If Obama can pull this off, he will be the diplomacy master however it is going to take more than diplomacy because action is what is really demanded and expected. I am exhausted just discussing these world problems. With all this strife plus North Korea I have to ask “Where will you be when the “end” comes?”

Doom and Gloom Eternally

And that’s the way I see it!!

ENJOY GOOD SCENERY WHILE YOU CAN - Tomorrow is never promised!!!
