The More Things Change, The More They Stay The Same

While the world watches, what are we showing? That we can not agree on a stimulus package that could possibly help us, as a country, as well as get the ball rolling in other countries. While the world watches, what are we showing? That just because a black man was elected president the attitudes of the people “in charge” did not change.

While the world watches, what are we showing? That there is still an element of division in our land, you hide behind democrats and republicans I see it as the old issue of black and white. While the world watches, what are we showing? That the divisions that have held us for so long are still alive and well and living in Washington D.C.

I have been so disgusted with American Politics for the last week that I have not been able to write because I knew I would tell it like I see it and I hate to dredge up the past. I have not really written anything since the Republican Party chose Michael Steele as their leader because that nomination held all the connotations of past experiences, for the divisions that have existed in America since I have been in existence.

Why now I kept asking myself, why, after all these years, did they choose a black man to head the GOP? I have my suspensions because I have seen the game played like this too many times. This was to show the world that they were not racist while they attempt to have Obama fail.

As I looked out over the audience when Steele gave his speech, I personally did not see one black face that comes to mind right now. There may have been one or two out of the masses that were there, but not one I recall as being for the people.

When I look at how the Republicans are refusing to sign the stimulus package, bring up petty excuses and even having John McCain step to the mike and give his opinion, I clearly understand the depth of the dissention. For me the Republicans do not care about we the people all they truly care about is the failure of the mission.

Did they hold back when Bush asked for the money to bail out the banks and the Wall Street institutions? Yet with our economy falling into deeper joblessness, they sit around and bicker over minor details, holding back on a solution. While Steele is in place to cover their real attitudes so we look instead to the words that are said.

“This stimulus package has too much pork, this is nothing but a spending spree designated by the Democrats, we are not so sure this stimulus package will work, why would we want to refurbish federal buildings?; when all along the real mission is to have Obama look bad in the eyes of the people or show somehow that he is incompetent.

This country I live in has so many flaws. I watched a movie over the weekend on Josephine Baker. How she left America, claimed fame from abroad, came back to America with hopes of acceptance but realized too quick that things had not changed and right now today, I can feel what she must have felt because as I look around at how politics are played, I see the same attitudes displayed “undercover” and I see that there are those who still want to do business as usual.

While the world watches we are definitely showing them that we, as a country, can not get past our past so why should they get past their hate for us. While the world watches the games are still played and my pride for American has again been swayed as I realize inside that the more things change, the more they stay the same.

TARP vs Stimulus vs We The People

Published by truth2u under Politics, obama Edit This

TARP Fund, Stimulus Package, I’m getting lost in the details. Consequently, distinguishing them apart from what they are for, makes me not sure of what details go where.

The TARP fund is the $350 billion to bail out the banks where the Stimulus Package provides the jobs that we’ve lost. Now the first part of the TARP was used to bail out banks and those Wall Street people who in turn paid out $1.8 billion in bonuses to their top staff. They took trips to fancy retreats and plan on buying expensive aircraft yet, they lay off ‘we the people’.

The Stimulus Package is designed to build up the economy, with tax breaks and job creations, food stamp increases and unemployment insurance extensions. Now this Stimulus Package can’t seem to pass inspection; it had some good ideas but needed some correction.

As I watched the news today, I heard a pretty good suggestion, to allow homeowners to refinance at a lower interest rate of about 4%, that way they would be able to have more disposable income to help stimulate the economy. My question becomes is this fixed rate or variable?

Good points to keep in this Stimulus package are as follows, tax breaks to the middle class, the unemployment insurance increase and extension, as well as the increase for older Americans, I think they deserve it for carrying us this far and I’m sure some where affected by this downturn in the economy. Now their money is gone they had tucked away in stocks and bonds and their energy is gone after a lifetime of being shackled to another man’s job.

Though they say that Obama’s plan is from a Democratic agenda while this may be true, it’s time someone looked out for “we the people”. The greed of the upper class and the finance people creating loans for new homes that ended up cheating the people. Those big bankers and finance people deserve to be forced to lower interest rates, and refinance these loans, in an effort to help people keep their homes.

They understood the workings of these loans they were giving to people, playing on the desire of everyone to live the American dream. Knowing, indeed, just how those accelerated, variable interest rate loans would affect certain people. Yet, they smiled in your faces and accepted your money because they knew they would end up on the winning end.

But this plan that they had, blew up in the faces, of all these big banks and finance places. In their efforts to recoup what they were beginning to lose they accepted the money from the government, yet felt they did not have to play by anyone’s rules, for how said money was eventually used, so they did not try to hide it and it appears the money was spent, keeping them in the lifestyle they had grown accustomed to and in the end, they ended up needing to justify their spending but the justification was as simple as, they are just living the American dream.

Their consciousness showing no empathy, at all, for all who are suffering because of their greed; by allowing us to see just how greedy they are, by asking us to bail them out of the hole they have dug themselves in. They deserve what they get if this Stimulus Package ever gets signed into law and the interest rates fall on all homeowners loans, giving those bankers and finance people, a new cash limit to give away in bonuses to their people. These bonuses that were issued, that are suppose to be a reward for a job well done; but with the economy as it is, what was that job that was so “well done?”

While it may be that Obama’s intentions were good, he may have focused too much attention on the future and not enough on the present but at least he had a package to present to the House, which makes it “in the process”. My question becomes how long will it take, to get passed into law, how long before “we the people” begin to see some relief.
