Who Is More Deserving - You Decide
On December 19, 2008, after allegedly slashing his girlfriend’s face in a jealous rage, based on the fact that he discovered she had another man’s police union card in her purse and he did not like her explanations as to why it was there, a former police office and councilman was arrested. However, yesterday he was sworn in as a new state senator.
It would seem as though Burris, being picked by untrustworthy Blagojevich would be the lesser of two evils.
Hiram Monserrate was charged with assault and weapon possession after his girlfriend, Karla Giraldo’s, was seen in a hospital for injuries sustained in the incident, requiring twenty-five (25) stitches to her face, after the shards of glass were removed from in and around her eye.
Both Monserrate and his girlfriend claim the slashing was an accident however, authorities say evidence, including surveillance videos show a different scenario. Videos show a heated argument and a frightened and bleeding woman in distress.
Giraldo originally stated that she was assaulted, but then changed her account when she realized officers planned to arrest Monserrate. Later Giraldo filed a statement with police stating she did not wish to press charges. At this time the case is pending, yet Monserrate has been sworn in as a senator. Was this another case of “pay for play”? What did Monserrate offer Giraldo to make her attempt to drop the charges and is there enough evidence on the videos actually, to convict him?
Monserrate is not only a liar because, he claimed to have tripped while holding a glass of water and the glass accidently hit Giraldo, but he has an assault charge pending against him as a result of the evidence collected by authorities. Meanwhile Burris, who, so far is only guilty by his association with Blagojevich, has been denied his senate seat.
Some say the charges should have kept Monserrate from taking office, however even with the charges pending Monserrate was able to claim his senate seat and bragged to his critics that he was there for the long haul. The assault he is accused of carries a maximum sentence of seven years in prison. If he is convicted, state law requires that he be expelled from the Senate.
So you have a governor, Governor Richardson, who is being investigated for “pay for play” in New Mexico, who is still in his position as governor but withdrew his presidential cabinet appointment, and you have a violent liar who was just sworn in as a senator in
Albany New York.
You then have Burris who is guilty of nothing more that being associated with a governor who has charges pending, on a crime of “pay for play” who is being processed with the hope of impeachment because he was too blatant in his efforts to sell the senate seat.
Not only is Monserrate allegedly guilty of violence, he reportedly supplied more than $400,000 in city funds, while he was a city councilman, to a nonprofit agency that has been run by some of his closest aides. The organization involved is called Libre and they have neither filed a tax return for the past two years nor registered as a charity with the state attorney general’s office, as required. It’s starting to get a little embarrassing for the government of the US of A. and Burris as well. It’s almost like – let me see how many hoops you are willing to jump through to get this seat, all along knowing that Burris, being the “opportunist” that he is, will jump through any and all hoops and Blagojevich will stand strong in his conviction that he has done nothing wrong and really nothing has been proven clearly except blatant disrespect.
Yet, a man who would lose control cut his girlfriend’s face and then fabricate an obvious lie about what happened in the incident, even though it took 25 stitches to correct the damage done by his “trip into her face”; even though, there are videos of the incident that show a different story; that same person, is a better candidate, and is, in fact, sworn in, for the position of Senator.
Are we all not, on some levels, “opportunist”? Am I to assume that what really is important is even though we are all opportunist because each of these players, Richardson, Blagojevich, Monserrate and Burris are all “opportunist, in their own way, that the deciding factor “which eliminates you from the race” is the road you take towards the means to your end – very interesting.
This is also very telling in what people value most – sneakiness, lies, control and games, because bottom line is “you can’t handle the truth”.
There is something seriously wrong with this picture, but you can stop rolling the tape. Either allow the swearing in of Burris’ or figure out a way, by the law, that excludes him – and so far, you can’t find that way. Stop making the man jump through, unnecessary, hoops based on his associations, because you know he will jump through any and all hoops – and how many would you jump through if you “wanted a position”; he wants this position and like he says he has done nothing wrong “yet?”
