Your Government At Work
Burris is dropping names of people who are supporting him, in his struggle for the senate seat, names like ex-President Jimmy Carter, and hoping that he will be accepted into the US Senate to claim his seat which Rod Blagojevich, untrustworthy Governor of Illinois, appointed him to.
In this struggle for the senate seat, the word was finally used. I did not want to put it out there although I felt it applied. The word is opportunist and it has been applied to Burris. In the past Burris has lost, in four different elections, for different public service positions within the state of Illinois.
A little man with a larger than life view of himself, somewhat like “Napoleon the Great,” wants this senate seat regardless of how that seat comes into his possession. Burris has had an extremely large mausoleum built in his honor listing his accomplishments, which are engraved in stone across this mausoleum. This, on some levels, tells you who Burris is as a man.
In what appears to be a hasty back step by Democrats yesterday, they are opening the doors to a possible agreement to allow Burris to be sworn in, but not right away. So far this has only taken the form of supportive words.
It still seems to hinge on the signature of the secretary of state and the refusal by the secretary of state to sign off on Burris’ paperwork. However, the secretary of state seems to be denying that his signature is needed.
Now the Secretary of State is saying the document does not need to be signed by him, even though the paperwork contains a signature block for the secretary of state to sign off on. The secretary of state is now saying that he was being used as the fall guy for the senate. The senate insists that the rule has been a rule for many years so clearly it should be on the books, written down as proof and direction to take in order to become a Senator.
If it is not written down, does that make it not legal therefore, not a requirement and the senate was wrong for keeping the seat away from Burris on the first day and through this day; or is it, on the books, but in order to pass some time until Obama gets into office, since Obama spoke, through the media concerning Blagojevich stepping down and not honoring Blagojevich’s appointment of Burris, The Illinois Senator, or until Blagojevich is impeached which some are saying could be as early as next week.
What is the real plan for Burris concerning his senate seat? If Blagojevich is impeached next week will that negate his appointment of Burris to that senate seat even though it was appointed to Burris during a time when Blagojevich was legitimately, Governor of Illinois?
At this point even Obama has spoken to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, on Tuesday, regarding the need to find a solution, quickly, to this issue of the vacant senate seat previously held by Obama himself, and find it sooner rather than later. The reasoning behind this is that this unnecessary standoff is draining attention and putting the Senate in a bad light.
At any rate, yesterday I heard mention that a court may have to decide the legitimacy of the document which would have allowed Burris to take his seat in the Senate on January 5, 2009, since there are now two sides to the story. And if it is discovered that the Secretary of State does need to place his signature on the document and this has never before occurred, since everyone is so confused about the process as it relates to the legitimacy of Burris’ documents, does that mean that each of the current senators, whose paperwork is not signed by the Secretary of state, would not have paperwork that according to the rule,“would be in order.”
However, if it is found that the Secretary of State does need to sign the papers and he had been doing it all along with the Senators currently in the senate, then why was he so confused as to the need for his signature on Burris’ paperswork.
I am so dizzy going around and around on this political merry-go-round. In the mean time does Burris have to wait until the court decides whether the law was on paper on just in the minds of the senate, or that the Secretary of State never had to sign the paperwork and Burris could have been seated in the senate on January 5, 2009.
